For individuals new to the field, paraprofessionals, those whose job has some elements of career counseling but may not have it as the primary function, and for those wanting to break into the field of career counseling.
What makes a good career professional? How do I work most effectively with my clients? Is my knowledge of the Future of Work as well as current trends sufficient? What are the latest best practices, tools and approaches that career counselors use? In this introductory seminar, participants will use interactive exercises, role plays, and case studies to broaden their understanding of the career development process, with particular emphasis on helping clients move through their career journeys.
Topics to be covered: Career Development Theories and Application Exposure to a variety of Career Self-Assessments Career Counseling Strategies for Effective Career Conversations Career Information and Resources *Participants will leave with a practitioner tool kit that will include activities and exercises they will be able to use with their clients.
OUR PRESENTERS
Anne Grieves: Anne, a seasoned career coach and team-building facilitator with over two decades of experience, is dedicated to guiding individuals, groups, and teams towards their goals. She is passionate about unlocking the unique potential within each person and team, recognizing that individual traits and external influences shape their the career journey and toward professional fulfillment.
In her work with individuals, Anne excels at building personal connections with her clients, helping them identify their needs, explore new possibilities, and develop actionable plans to achieve their aspirations. Her ultimate goal is to offer individuals the opportunity to explore fulfilling career paths at any stage of their professional lives. When partnering with organizations, Anne creates tailored training programs focused on improving communication, fostering collaboration, and enhancing overall team dynamics. She works with advocates for managers to actively support their team members in discovering their potential, promoting a culture where personal growth and fulfillment are central to professional development.
Anne's expertise lies in transforming teams into cohesive units that drive success through synergy and effective teamwork. With deep professional experience and a reassuring warmth, Anne coaches individuals, groups and teams toward clarity to make intentional career decisions, bolsters team success through innovative training, and nurtures self-confidence in all those she supports.
Diane Ciarletta: Diane has several decades of experience working at Northeastern University. After early career forays into special education, television production, human resources, and school counseling, she found that career coaching aligned best with her desire to do mission-driven work.
She completed a BA in English and Psychology at Wheaton College and an M.Ed in Counseling and a Certificate in School Counseling at Northeastern. In fact, her entire family, including her husband and three kids, are all Northeastern Huskies! Her top strengths are empathy, positivity, and arranger. Her life design includes volunteering in her community, reading, interior decorating, and spending time with family.
